I can see across Boundary Bay from my office window. Its blowing thirty and almost warm and balmy. My thoughts drift off to Alaska, Sitka to be exact. several months ago I made this little teaser slide show, now I stare blankly at a contract to film a documentary in Alaska starting March 15th.
Thirty days in Alaska would be a dream and who doesn’t want to spend St Patrick’s Day in Sitka. I haven’t signed the contract yet but I sit here pen in hand and my finders are getting itchy. Whenever I start a new film project I start with the sound track, it can make or break the film. Its the difference between a mediocre film and an epic. It says, THIS IS GOING TO BE HUGE!
To the lover of wilderness, Alaska is one of the most wonderful countries in the world.

Seriously though, this post made me long for the days of the Homestead site with the music. I had forgotten about the monthly music selection. I never would have heard Zee Avi without it. What an angel.
Glad to see you survived the great blizzard of 2012. Keep on smilin’.
I miss it too John, It was the music that gave me inspiration to write and yes she is an angel. I held onto that site as long as I could but so is the way of the world
.I gave notice at the office so now all I need to do is find a dog sitter and get my financial ducks in a row. It is sure to be a great trip and the project seems to grow by the second. Hope your staying warm on that side of the world. Alan
Good to hear you signed on the dotted line Alan. Looking forward to reading some updates while you are there if you have the time. Send me your address if you need a camera for the trip. It’s nothing like you’re used to but I’ve got a PowerShot 1300is that is not being used that would appreciate a new home. Staying warm here, thanks. Heading to Seoul for a month in Feb. to join my wife who’s already there. Itching to get out of town but will also miss the pup like you. I figure you can count the pleasures of life one hand and dogs are either the thumb or index finger. Wine is probably the middle finger, I love it and hate it at the same time. My mother-in-law is brewing up a homemade batch for my arrival so that should be interesting.
John, I laughed out laud when I read that wine is the middle finger. Sounds like we are both set on a great adventure. Thanks for the camera offer but the company is providing me with a whole set of new camera and film equipment, should it survive the rigors of Alaska it is mine for the taking. Have a great trip. I doubt I will have time to write much but expect to at least post a few pictures here and there. Alan
Hey Alan, what camera will you be using for your project? I just picked up a Canon 7D for capturing both stills and video. I haven’t delved too deeply into video yet, but from what I hear from the guys back at my old studio the 7D does an incredible job at both.
Good luck and much fun,

rOg, If everything goes as planned I will be using a Nikon D7000, I tried to get a D8 but no luck. I have a second photographer who is shooting a Canon 7D. For filming we will be using fixed and mobile Go pro cameras. We have been testing them and they are amazing and waterproof which is good cause it’s going to be cold and wet. You are welcome to join us if you can get yourself there, we can provide food and a warm place to crash. Alan
Alan,
Thanks for the offer but unfortunately I am in the middle of 2 kids’ hockey season and in the process of trying to obtain funding for my family’s website dedicated to accessibility in the national park system –

Needless to say, the plate is a little full until summer then hopefully I will be traveling and shooting consistently.
Thanks again and have fun,

Awesome website, I bet there are a ton of available grants if you can stomach the pain of applying for them.
