I sat in the cockpit watching the clouds float by wondering what exactly my next move would be. Its still a bit too cold to be on the hook so a game of cat and mouse with the weather persists. Its a dead calm one day followed by icy cold 30 knot winds the next.
I could feel the cold biting into my fingers as I worked on deck but didn’t dare go below into what was once a warm safe sanctuary. I had been banished to the cockpit while Hurricane Serena had her way with what used to be my galley.
I never realized how much of a minimalist I was until Serena came along. I literally can fit all my personal possessions in a shoe box. Trying to move her aboard for our cruise has been challenging but rather than all at once I have been taking baby steps. First her tooth brush, then a cubby for some clothes, a locker here or there, now she has taken over the whole boat.
I’ll never understand why she needs 4 types of oil to cook but I keep making space and we have plenty of it. Monday is going to be exciting and frightening as I’m teaching her to dill holes so we can build spice racks and finally install reef lines.
Each week more and more provisions find their way to the boat and are swallowed by our cavernous bilge lockers., in ten days we will do our final stocking with every last penny and from that point forward the clock to find odd jobs to restock the kitty will start ticking.
If you can’t learn to organize you will simply need a larger boat, we have the space and will fill every last drop. Every time I get frustrated and start day dreaming about a larger boat I remember this quote by Nigel Marsh

How exciting stocking the boat. Nice to hear that you are making room. Sharing.
Ha, there are times when I want to put a big red tape stripe right down the center of the boat, she gets her side I get mine. it has given me a great book idea though
Provisioning on the Falmouth 22′ – she must have adundant storage?
Weight wise I can stow over 2000 lbs. Because I have no engine or head or any of the holding tanks I have an immense amount of storage and have yet to be able to bring her to her LWL Lyle under ballsted the boat 700lbs so this little boat carries a ton.
What’s the destination your provisioning for?
None
we live in the San Juan’s and are just going to go where the wind blows us. There was a time when I wanted to sail to Asia but finances just aren’t allowing than right now. Our goal is north of west but we are slow lazy people and get side tracked very easily. Last summer I failed miserably at leaving so this year my only goal is to sail as much as I can.
That’s really good Stormy. My plan is the same. I’m just going to focus on spending as much time away from the dock as possible this summer. If all goes well, next summer I’ll try for Alaska.
It’s good to see that you’re getting some food in your lockers. Did you see the article Ken put up on our blog for easy seafood chiopini? It works great with just about seafood you can pull out of the water around here.
I hope we’ll get to rendezvous soon. Got any plans for this upcoming weekend? I had the idea for a couples weekend at Eagle Harbor or maybe Watmough Bay on Lopez (assuming nice weather, which is looking likely). Let me know if you’re interested.
I wont be back in town till Tuesday but we will come find you guys soon enough
nice quote to end the post on. i thought you were thinking the wind would take you South. Panama or something warm.
It will but there is so much to see and do here first.
