On this day exactly 28 years ago I graduated from High school at the ripe age of 17. Less than 24 hours later I was surfing knee high waves off the west coast of Maui. In a few short weeks I will reach my official half life. 28 years of hard work and travel and changed and molded me into the person I am to but those hard earned years were just my pre school. Older and wiser I now believe I understand the answers to questions that bothered me so.
I jumped in headfirst and am knee deep into the planning stages of bicycle touring with Chloe. I won’t know if it will work till I try but I’m all in. A tiny home base will be my jumping point, the goal is 6 months in the saddle and six months exploring locally. Where to begin…flat bars, drop bars, risers, carbon, steel, aluminum, titanium fat tire, skinny tires its all quite overwhelming but ill have plenty of time to figure it all out on the road, for now I have my blown steel steed Schwinnie and she is rocking it.
Nostalgic music has been stuck in my head all day since receiving that email reminding me how old I am. lyrics from The Animals House of the rising sun are rolling through my mind.
Well, I got one foot on the platform
The other foot on the train
I’m goin’ back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain
