I read this sign and wonder if I should do my part and tear it down.
The first page of my new book reads, between the dream and the deed lie the doldrums. I ponder this and think about signs, not the kind you can read on a piece of paper but the kind of suttle signs the universe slips into our life’s. Sometimes they go unseen. Other times they hit us across the side of the head like a 2×4. My days journey will take me from island to island and back, all in time I hope to paint my bottom and get Sookie floating. It’s a dead calm, the sun is shining and like always having missed the first ferry I’m behind on the days activities. In the middle of unpacking I was kidnapped to the jacuzzi for beers. Today will be a short sweet homecoming on San Juan and in a day or so Sookie will be back to business as usual safely tied up in her winter berth. The islands haven’t changed they never do, it’s me who has changed and with a changed mind and heart comes a change in direction.
Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.
